3 Tools for Less Pain + More Pleasurable Sex
Sex is a huge factor of pelvic health…
…and sexual dysfunction is prevalent enough for these companies to have created products that help the population that deals with painful sex (for various reasons). Whether you have vulvar pain, pain with initial penetration, or pain with depth, these tools justtt might do the trick. I’ve gotten to handle and play with all three, and to be honest - they are worth every penny.
Before we dive in, I want to be as transparent with you all as possible and let you know that two of these products are affiliate links. This means that if you click on my link and buy the product, I will get a small commission. Purchasing any of the products listed via my links will not charge you any extra money, just think of it as a referral bonus for me to keep on trying new things, testing pelvic health products, and passing along the gems to you.
Just in case this is your first time visiting the blog or receiving this in your inbox, let’s get on the same page! Nothing feels worse than wondering if someone’s being truthful or getting paid to talk about something. I wouldn’t share these with you if I didn’t believe that they could work for someone dealing with physically painful sex. As a pelvic floor physical therapist, I feel like it’s a big part of my job to use my hands to help, but they only do so much! These are the tools that I’ve found most recently that I’ve been “prescribing” and am proud to back up.
1. OHNUT
When I first heard about this product two years ago, I was blown away with the creativity of it. Recently, I have been working with a few clients who have been struggling with painful sex after child birth, and I remembered the name “Ohnut” and its design. So I finally bought a set to show them what it was and how it’s used as a potential option for less pain during deep penetrative sex. And WOW, let me just say - not only is the packaging perfect, but the Ohnut seems like a miracle once you touch it. In the words of the company, “Ohnut is an intimate wearable comprised of a series of stretchy rings that link together and let you customize the depth of penetration to...it's like a soft & squishy buffer between your body and the thing penetrating you.”
Can you visualize it? Imagine if your cervix was sitting lower and was more prone to being “poked.” Not the best feeling, depending on the situation. The Ohnut would be placed on the penetrating thing (finger, toy, or penis) at the base, so it acts as a stopper. I was so amazed and pleased with these squishy rings, I sought out their affiliate program and signed up. It’s a great tool to add to the box when you can start with three rings, and you can add or subtract as you progress towards deeper penetration pain-free. (Use code BELLERS7 for a discount.)
2. GoLove CBD Lube
CBD + water-based lubrication = GENIUS. I’ve always been a fan of CBD, which I’ve used personally and with clients (with permission) for pain, but never in and around my vagina - until now. This special mixture was created with comfort and pleasure in mind. The CBD puts you at ease, calming any anxiety and relaxing pelvic floor muscles - a MUST to enjoy sex pain-free. The water-based lubrication is slippery magic that soothes any dryness or delicate skin, and adds way more than wetness. It enhances tactile sensation for you with or without a partner and would definitely be a great combo with Ohnut, toys, and/or condoms (and the tool below!) for a pain-free pleasure-filled intimate time.
3. Vaginal Massage Wand
This is an OG tool used and recommended by therapists everywhere, myself included. If you’re struggling with deeper pain that feels hard to reach (and is never relieved with external massage/foam rolling) then a massage to your pelvic floor could be the way to go. It can look a bit extreme, as it is 8″ in length, curved and made of acrylic with 3/4″ diameter, but it’s all for easier access for self-inserted internal massage. (There’s a smaller sized wand too, labeled for “rectal massage.”)
The trigger point application of pressure paired with the GoLove CBD lube and deep breathing could be just the thing to down-regulate your painful pelvic floor but can also be used as an exploration tool. What if you glide your wand around your vulva in a more playful intimate way after you gave yourself a massage? The options are endless! If you’re a little worried about doing damage (you won’t if you think of it as a finger pressing around down there), you can always call on me for a guided session!
Wrapping It Up
These products aren’t the end all be all, BUT they are seriously my first suggestions after I’ve worked with someone and they’re ready to keep experimenting with sex (with themselves or with another) in the hopes that their pain can be managed, and better yet, go away. You can click on the product title or photo to check them out in more detail and purchase. I hope you found this helpful, and I’m curious if you’ve tried any or all of them out before!
